The YouTube King of Scrapping

Arguably E-Waste Ben is the premier scrapping channel on YouTube. If you are a beginner you will almost certainly very quickly find your way to this channel, either through a YouTube search or recommendation.

As of early 2022 he has amassed over 28 million views across 537 videos. He has 114k and rising subscribers. His comment sections are full of admiration.

These statistics are well earnt. For Ben manages to balance his videos with educational titbits and utter jaw dripping awe at the quantity of waste he processes in his garage. How tolerant his wife be of his lifestyle is hard to imagine. But his house and garden seem rammed full of electronics and components.

Stare in amazement at his oil drum full of ram sticks or processors. It is actually staggering how much a dedicated scrapper can achieve.

This volume of e-waste is however unachievable for most viewers and that does slightly detract from his message at times. He is clearly running a business and it does show at times. This makes some of his ‘pay-out’ videos unrealistic to the average person.

Ben does some very long recordings, well over an hour. Some people like that style, others prefer a quick hit of information. Certainly, it can be had to find the short useful bit of education within a 2 hour long video, but frankly at times it is well worth the wait

But do not let this detract you from the education you can obtain. Ben’s particular skill is with printed circuit boards, depopulating them and hunting down the metals. One day he plans to process his processors and gold pins. We wait the day because it will be a staggering amount.

Bottom line -this is where you first come when earning about scrapping. You will in time drift away from it, partly in jealousy of the sheer amount of gear he has. For European hobbyists it is harder to glean useful stuff at times as our market is so different. But you will always find yourself coming back for a quick fix now and again.

Occasionally I use products that I think will be of interest to other scrappers like melting furnaces, tools & safety equipment. “I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for me to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.” This helps me to continue putting up quality video (well, to my standards anyway) without the need to ask for donations from my subscribers because I believe the best form of payment is simply a thumbs up and an appreciative comment from viewers.
